Overview
Established on 1 January 2019, Technological University Dublin — also known as TU Dublin — is the first technological university in Ireland. Its history dates back to 1887 when the City of Dublin Technical Schools, Ireland's first technical education institution, was founded. Three already-existing technical institutes in the Dublin region — the Dublin Institute of Technology, the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown, and the Institute of Technology Tallaght — were combined to form the university. With 28,500 students, it is the second-biggest third-level university in Ireland.
TU Dublin is Ireland's first Technological University. Building on the rich heritage of its founding organisations — DIT, IT Blanchardstown, and IT Tallaght — TU Dublin is inclusive and adaptable, creating educational opportunities for students at all stages of their lives. Academic excellence in science, the arts, business, engineering, and technology converge at TU Dublin to create the leaders of tomorrow. TU Dublin's students learn in a practice-based environment informed by the latest research and enabled by technological advances, with pathways to graduation from apprenticeship to PhD.
TU Dublin is Ireland's first and largest technological university, built on a foundation of practical, career-focused education. It champions a hands-on approach, integrating industry placements and applied projects into every curriculum — the university for ambitious students who prioritize real-world experience and excellent employability. With over 29,000 students and deep industry partnerships across technology, business, and creative fields, TU Dublin is a powerhouse of innovation right in the heart of Europe's fastest-growing tech hub.
The flagship campus is situated within Grangegorman, Dublin, with two other long-term campuses in Tallaght and Blanchardstown and remaining legacy sites at Bolton Street and Aungier Street. The Grangegorman campus — a stunning, purpose-built 73-acre development on Dublin's northside — is one of Europe's largest urban regeneration projects, transforming a former Victorian psychiatric hospital site into a world-class university campus seamlessly integrated into Dublin's thriving city fabric.
TU Dublin provides 200 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in humanities, engineering, business, science, tourism, and law. The university has a track record of over 100,000 graduates placed in 70 countries. Notable companies such as Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Deloitte, and IBM consistently recruit graduates here. Over 1,000 students are working with community organisations at TU Dublin, reflecting the university's deep commitment to civic engagement.
